Susanna Mälkki Announced Principal Guest Conductor LA Philharmonic
The Los Angeles Philharmonic has announced the appointment of Finnish conductor, Susanna Mälkki as their new Principal Guest Conductor
The Los Angeles Philharmonic has today announced the appointment of Finnish conductor, Susanna Mälkki as their new Principal Guest Conductor - effective from the commencement of the 2017/2018 season.
She will be the first person to serve the role, since Sir Simon Rattle in 1981-1994.
‘She is one of the most gifted conductors I know, and the orchestra also loves and trusts her,’ LA Philharmonic Music and Artistic Director, Gustavo Dudamel has said.
‘It is wonderful to have such a vibrant artist as our principal guest, and I am very pleased and proud to welcome her to the LA Phil family,’ he has said.
Susanna, 47 previously served as Principal Cellist with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra - and has held Principal Conducting positions with the Ensemble InterContemporain, Gulbenkian Orchestra and Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra.
