Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Choir Appoints New Principal Guest Conductors
Maxim Emelyanychev and Krista Audere will step into the twin roles
The Swedish Radio Orchestra and Choir recently appointed two new Principal Guest Conductors: Maxim Emelyanychev (who will lead the orchestra) and Krista Audere (who will lead the choir). They will lead the ensembles in productions where the Music Directors Daniel Harding and Kaspars Putniņš are not present.
Originally from Latvia, Krista Audere won the 2021 Eric Ericson Award — one of the most prestigious honors available to young choral conductors. She has worked with some of Europe’s leading choirs, such as the Netherlands Chamber Choir, the BBC Singers, and the Swedish Radio Choir.
Russian conductor Maxim Emelyanychev is also a pianist and harpsichordist. He is the Music Director of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the period-instrument group Il Pomo d'Oro, and has worked with prestigious groups such as the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
"This is an opportunity for further development and to secure good collaborations for the future," said Staffan Becker, the General Manages at the Swedish Radio Concert Hall. "I am convinced that our two new principal guest conductors will contribute new perspectives both in terms of repertoire and the actual music making in the ensembles."
"The Swedish Radio Choir is the dream job!" said Krista Audere. "I have been captivated by their voices since a young age. It feels fantastic to be able to deepen our collaboration after the fine concert project we had during the last season. And it all comes back to the fact that we already clicked during the finals of the Eric Ericson Award 2021."
“The quality of the musicians in the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra is incredible!" said Maxim Emelyanychev. "I am very much looking forward to developing our relationship."
