Sydney Conservatorium of Music Appoints New Senior Lecturer in Violin

Timothy Kantor will begin teaching at the Conservatorium in July 2024

Violinist Timothy Kantor has been appointed to the faculty at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he will begin as Senior Lecturer in July 2024.

Previously a member of the Toronto-based Afiara Quartet, Kantor has also played chamber music with musicians such as Joshua Bell, Jaime Laredo, Sharon Robinson, Atar Arad, William Preucil, Alexander Kerr, Mark Steinberg, and the Pacifica Quartet. In addition, he has been featured as an artist on platforms such as American Public Media’s "Performance Today," CBC Radio, and various classical radio stations in Cleveland, Toronto, and Tucson. He was also formerly Concertmaster of the Evansville Philharmonic (Indiana).

Kantor graduated with honors from Bowdoin College and holds a Master of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Among his former teachers are Jaime Laredo, Paul Kantor, Stephen Kecskemethy, Andrew Jennings, and Mark Kaplan.

An Assistant Professor of Violin at the University of Arizona's Fred Fox School of Music, Kantor has also held an assistant professorship at the Fundación por la Musica in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

"Mr Kantor brings extensive pedagogical knowledge and experience in all areas of interpretation and performance teaching, and with a particular strength in chamber music," said Anna Reid, the Dean and Head of School at Conservatorium.

"His appointment at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music will bring an exciting and innovative force in string teaching to Australia."
