Tabea Zimmermann Made an Honorary Member of the German Music Council
Zimmermann is one of only eight women to receive the honor
The renowned German violist Tabea Zimmermann has been made an honorary member of the German Music Council, in recognition of her contribution to both national and international concert life. Her induction brings the total number of musicians on the Council up to 49, with only eight of those members being women.
One of the world's foremost violists, Zimmermann has been artist-in-residence at the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Royal Concertebouw Orchestra, and regularly appears as a soloist with prominent orchestras across the globe.
In addition to her celebrated concerts, she has always had a firm dedication to pedagogy. After 20 years teaching at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin, she has recently returned to the Frankfurt Academy of Music.
In 2020, Zimmermann was the recipient of the International Ernst von Siemens Music Prize, valued at €250,000, and earlier in 2023, she was named the Chair of the Board for the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
"The German Music Council warmly congratulates Prof. Tabea Zimmermann on her appointment as an honorary member," said Prof. Maria Krüger, the President of the German Music Council. "This highest award given by the German Music Council honors Tabea Zimmermann's passionate and tireless commitment to musical life."
"The violist is not only closely connected to many Music Council projects as a former participant, but has later significantly supported and supported their development," she continued. "Because for Tabea Zimmermann — as for the German Music Council — making music always means living in community, pursuing social goals and sending out impulses for better coexistence. We are very happy and honored to have her at our side as an honorary member."
