Tchaikovsky's House Destroyed by Russian Occupation in Ukraine
According to the French news outlet, AFP, the villa where the Romantic composer stayed for a brief time is now in ruins.
The villa is in the city of Trostyanets, which in the mid-1800s, was a part of the Russian Empire. There, at age 24, Tchaikovsky composed his first symphonic work — the programmatic overture, The Storm, Op. 76.
Composed and orchestrated during his summer vacation, the piece was based on Russian dramatist Aleksandr Ostrovsky's play of the same name.
