Terra String Quartet Named as Yale's Fellowship Quartet-in-Residence for 2024/25
The group will be mentored by the Brentano Quartet and will also teach undergraduate ensembles
The Fellowship Quartet-in-Residence at Yale University enables a quartet to be mentored by the Brentano String Quartet (Yale's faculty quartet-in-residence), while also providing coaching and mentoring to undergraduate ensembles at the school.
As the newest recipient, each member of the Terra String Quartet will receive a stipend, and the fellowship is renewable for a second year.
Comprising Harriet Langley and Amelia Dietrich (violins), Chih-Ta Chen (viola), and Audrey Chen (cello), the Terra String Quartet were prizewinners at the 2023 Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition and 2023 Osaka International Chamber Music Competition. They also won the 2022 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.
The quartet has recently appeared at Guarneri Hall, Chamber Music Raleigh, Randolph College, Music for a Great Space, and the Emilia-Romagna Festival in Italy. They have performed with the Cremona Quartet, and have also collaborated with pianist Diane Walsh at the Chesapeake Chamber Music Festival and violinist Ray Chen at Rockport Chamber Festival.
"When we talked about what we want for a career, teaching has been at the forefront of our minds," Dietrich said. "We would love to be in residence at an institution just like the Brentanos are at Yale. It’s a lifestyle we’ve really been drawn to. This is a really good first step." Dietrich added that the opportunity to receive mentorship and mentor younger musicians is "unique to the Yale program."
"The Brentanos’ curation of programs is something we’ve admired and respected for years," she concluded.
