Texas’s Moores School of Music Appoints Affiliate Artist in Violin
The Canadian violinist Boson Mo has taken on the role
The University of Houston’s Moores School of Music has now welcomed Boson Mo as its new Affiliate Artist in Violin.
Hailing from Montréal, Mo is Assistant Concertmaster of the Houston Symphony and recently served as Acting Assistant Concertmaster of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
His previous roles included Guest Principal Second at the Minnesota Orchestra, and Guest Concertmaster at both the Phoenix Symphony and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. He has also played with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, plus toured Europe with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in 2022.
Among his achievements include being one of Canada’s “30 Under 30 Top Classical Musicians” in 2013, Third Prize at the 2013 Michael Hill International Violin Competition, and the “Prix Joseph-Rouleau” at the 2010 Montreal International Violin Competition. Additionally, he has twice secured the Canada Council for the Arts’ Musical Instrument Bank loan.
In solo playing, Mo has appeared with the Auckland Philharmonia, Orchestre symphonique de Longueuil, Banff Centre for the Arts, Aspen Music Festival and School, Rockport Chamber Music Festival, and more.
His performances have also been broadcast on Radio New Zealand and CBC Radio-Canada.
Mentored by Paul Kantor and Keqiang Li, Mo is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music and Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. He currently performs on a violin crafted by MacArthur Genius Grant recipient Joseph Curtin.
