The Benedetti Foundation's Virtual Sessions Presents"A Cultural Exchange: Part 2"

Between April 18 and May 8, the Benedetti Foundation will present a new edition of their Global Violin Sessions. The sessions are designed to take attendees on a "journey around the world through the eyes of a violin," exploring a range of different musical traditions and unpacking the flavor of different musical styles.

Three weekends were organized around three broad geographical locations: Scotland, featuring fiddlers Aly Bain and Jenna Reid with accordionist Phil Cunningham, Egypt, featuring the Ayoub Sisters, and a more general "East Meets West" session, with violinists Laure Chan and VC Artist Timothy Chooi.

A tune for the sessions has been written by Phil Cunningham, and will create continuity across each session. The presenters will each put their own cultural spin on said tune in order to demonstrate the special features and idiosyncrasies of their own cultural style.

"I am really excited that our guest artists will teach the participants the nuances and techniques of their tradition," said Nicola Benedetti.

"They will delve deep inside their worlds, and participants will not only learn about how to play in their style, but also learn about why they sound the way they do and make the choices they make. We can’t wait and hope you will join us."
