The House of Dior Announces New Ambassador
The South African opera singer Pretty Yende has joined the fashion house as a global ambassador
A luxury brand, the House of Dior has selected soprano Pretty Yende to join its global ambassadors, which includes actors such as Natalie Portman and Anya-Taylor Joy. Yende will represent Dior’s women’s collections designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri.
Since making her 2010 debut at the Latvian National Theatre in Riga as “Micaela” in Carmen, Yende has become one of the most sought-after opera singers of her time.
In 2013, she drew international acclaim after stepping in at short notice to play Countess Adèle in Rossini’s Comte d’Ory at the Metropolitan Opera.
Yende has also performed with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Opéra National de Paris, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Opernhaus Zürich, and Gran Teatre del Liceu, and Vienna Staatsoper, among many others.
In 2023, she was chosen to sing at the coronation of King Charles III, and was also named an officer of the Order of Arts and Letters in France. The World Health Organization recently named her a Goodwill Ambassador for the arts and health.
“The soprano now embodies the audacity, grace and elegance of the Dior style, a constantly reinvented femininity,” wrote Dior, according to Vanity Fair. “An alliance celebrating more than ever the privileged links that have always united the house with the magic of arts and music, as evidenced by the Mozart, Verdi, and Debussy models imagined by the founding couturier for the Dior spring-summer line. 1950. An exaltation of dreams, joy and creative beauty.”
