Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic to Celebrate 50th Anniversary
To mark the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the Karajan Academy is hosting a benefit concert to raise funds for the program's future endeavors.
The orchestra will be comprised of current scholarship holders of the academy, as well as players from the Berliner Philharmoniker who came up through the academy system.
The program features the world premiere of a new work by London-based South Korean composer Donghoon Shin. The piece, entitled "Nachtergebung: Concerto for Cello and Orchestra," has been commissioned by the Berliner Philharmoniker with funding from the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung. Cellist Bruno Delepelaire, who is a former academy scholar and now the principal cello of the Philharmoniker, is featured as the concerto soloist.
In addition, the program will contain Mozart's Symphony No. 36 "Linz," and Beethoven's Symphony No. 5.
The Mozart symphony will be conducted by current scholarship holder Nodoka Okisawa, while Kirill Petrenko will lead the rest of the program.
Tickets range between €25 and €76 in price. All proceeds will go directly to the Karajan Academy so that they can continue their work with young musicians. You can purchase tickets here.
