The Metropolitan Opera Launches 2024 Summer Recital Series

The series will involve five free concerts throughout New York City featuring acclaimed classical singers and pianists

The Metropolitan Opera will launch the 15th season of its Summer Recital Series on June 18, 2024, with five free outdoor recitals scheduled around New York City, featuring famous opera arias and duets, and other classical favorites.

Presented alongside Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage, the first concert will take place at SummerStage in Central Park in Manhattan on June 18, at 8 PM, followed by a concert in Brooklyn Bridge Park on June 20, at 7 PM

These evenings will feature the Met’s assistant conductor Dimitri Dover at the piano playing with soprano Leah Hawkins, tenor Mario Chang, and bass-baritone Michael Sumuel

All three singers starred in notable Met premieres earlier this season — Hawkins and Sumuel sang the roles of Louise/Betty and Reginald in Anthony Davis’s X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X, and Chang sang the role of Arcadio in Daniel Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas

Three additional 7 PM recitals will feature rising stars of the Met Lindemann Young Artists program — soprano Brittany Olivia Logan, mezzo-soprano Hannah Jones, and tenor Matthew Cairns — who will perform on June 24 in Jackie Robinson Park (Manhattan); June 26 at the Williamsbridge Oval (Bronx); and June 28 in Socrates Sculpture Park (Queens).

Currently in her third year with the Met’s Youngs Artists program, Logan made her Met debut as Clotilde in Bellini’s Norma, and sang the roles of Priestess in Verdi’s Aida and Anna in Verdi’s Nabucco

Cairns is in his second year of the program and was a 2022 Grand Finals Winner of the Met’s Laffont Competition and made his company debut last season. Also a member of the Denyce Graves Foundation’s inaugural Shared Voices program, Jones joins the Met’s young artists program this fall. Deborah Robertson, who is in her first year of the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, will also be joining the singers at the piano.

The Met’s Summer Recital Series is funded by the Elizabeth B. McGraw Foundation. Additional support is provided by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the City Council, and the Department of Parks and Recreation.

No tickets are required to the series. There are no rain dates for any of the park recitals. For more information, click here.
