The UK’s Henley Symphony Orchestra Appoints New Music Director
British conductor Alexander Walker will assume the role as of November 21, 2024
As Henley Symphony Orchestra’s (HSO) newly appointed Music Director and Principal Conductor, Alexander Walker will succeed Leon Bosch, who started the role in January 2023 but has left due to other music commitments.
Walker will begin his tenure on November 21, 2024, and direct HSO’s following Christmas concerts.
He has conducted the BBC Philharmonic, City of London Sinfonia, New Queens Hall Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, plus his recordings on the Naxos label have achieved critical acclaim.
Walker regularly conducts the George Enescu Philharmonic, and until recently, worked with the Russian State Symphony Orchestra, Musica Viva, Symphony Orchestra New Russia, and the Russian Philharmonic.
Additionally, he has worked at the Royal Opera House and Royal Ballet, and has been Music Director for Ballet productions for the Finnish and Norwegian National Operas.
As an educator, Walker is a professor at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and teaches conducting at London’s Royal Academy of Music, where he leads the Junior Sinfonia and Symphony Orchestras.
“The orchestra is excited to be embarking on a new chapter for its 55th season with the musical guidance of Alex, whose work with the orchestra as guest conductor goes back to 2014,” said HSO’s Trevor Howell in the Henley Herald. “Under Alex’s talented leadership, HSO hopes to build on its past success to inspire future audiences and players alike.”
