London Holds "Next Steps for Curriculum Music" Conference
The UK's Music Teacher Magazine aims to provide a space for music teachers to discuss and debate particular aspects of music pedagogy. Entitled "Next Steps for Curriculum Music," the one-day conference will take place at the Hallam Conference Centre in central London on July 5, 2022.
"The last few years have been awash with dense, lengthy documents for the music education community to wade through and absorb – from reports and non-statutory guidance to Ofsted research reviews and national plans," the conference committee wrote.
"But for the time-poor classroom music teacher, what do they mean, what are the expectations, and what happens now?"
Speakers include Alex Aitken (the children’s musical director and cover conductor for Mary Poppins in London), Yogesh Dattani (who is currently equity, diversity, and inclusion lead for Music Mark), and Christopher Stevens (who is one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors and Ofsted’s subject lead for music).
"I feel that this conference couldn’t come at a better time," Music Teacher’s editor Harriet Clifford said. "Music teachers have been bombarded by seemingly endless reports, plans and reviews over the last year, and everyone just needs a chance to take stock, clear a path through the jargon, and work out what it all means for them, their classroom, and their students."
The conference is aimed at the following groups of people:
- Primary teachers (music specialists or general)
- Secondary music teachers
- Music subject leads
- Hub leaders
- SEN and inclusion professionals
- School leadership/governors
- Education advisors
