Onyx Records has announced the release of violinists Vadim Repin and Daniel Hope‘s new album: Turnage Double Violin Concerto 'Shadow Walker'.
Recorded with the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic, the disc features the world premiere recording of English composer Mark-Anthony Turnage's new Concerto for Two Violins & Orchestra "Shadow Walker" - coupled with Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique, Op. 14.
"The story behind 'Shadow Walker' is really something ..." Daniel has told The Violin Channel.
"I happened to find myself in the same Luxembourg hotel as Vadim Repin and the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic leader, Sascha Goetzel so we all went out to dinner ... we were talking about a project together and Sascha suggested a Double Concerto, as there are very few for large symphony orchestra ... I suggested Mark-Anthony Turnage, a composer I greatly admire .... the others thought this sounded like a plan, so I called Mark from the dinner table ..." he has said.
"Not only did I reach him but he said yes right away ... two years later to the day we gave the world premiere ... something like that just never happens! But I am so pleased it did!"
“This new project is a testament to collaboration and the coming together of friends …” Vadim has told The Violin Channel.
“I hope listeners can hear our joy!”
