VC Artist Augustin Hadelich Named as Boston Symphony Orchestra's Artist in Residence for 2025/26

Hadelich will play concerti by John Adams and Thomas Adès, as well as appearing in chamber recitals and mentoring local students

VC Artist Augustin Hadelich has been appointed as the Artist in Residence at the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) for the 2025/26 season.

As part of the residency, Hadelich will perform two programs with the BSO, as well as make a guest appearance with the Boston Symphony Chamber Players (BSCP). He will also give two recitals and take the opportunity to work with music students at Project STEP, the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras, and more.

At the first performance of the residency, Hadelich will play the John Adams Violin Concerto, followed by a solo recital in the Cathedral Church of St. Paul — to include works by Paganini, Telemann, Coleridge-Taylor, and Ysaÿe, concluding with Bach’s Partita No. 2 in D Minor.

Later, Hadelich will once again join pianist Orion Weiss to present music from their 2024 disc American Road Trip – which includes works by composers such as Amy Beach, Charles Ives, John Adams, Carlos Simon, and Daniel Bernard Roumain.

Alongside the BSCP, Hadelich will play Chausson’s Concerto for violin, piano, and string quartet with pianist Marc-André Hamelin. Then, he closes the residency with Thomas Adès's violin concerto Concentric Paths, with Adès himself conducting the orchestra.

"The BSO and I are proud to be joined by an array of wonderful soloists this season," said Andris Nelsons, BSO Music Director. "We are especially pleased with the appointment of violinist Augustin Hadelich as artist in residence."

"Since he debuted with us at Tanglewood in 2012, Augustin’s incredible artistry and soaring lyricism have continued to fascinate audiences. This coming season, we are fortunate to welcome Augustin for several weeks, and to witness the expansion of his relationship with the BSO, its audiences, and with local music students from organizations including Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras and Project STEP."

"I am delighted to be the Artist in Residence with the Boston Symphony Orchestra for the 2025–26 season," Hadelich said. I" made my debut with the BSO back in 2012 at Tanglewood, and my admiration for the orchestra has grown every collaboration we have had together since then."

"I have great respect for Maestro Nelsons and love playing with him. I very much look forward to our week together to mark the beginning of the residency performing the Adams violin concerto."

"The Boston audience and community have always been incredibly welcoming, warm, and appreciative of new ideas. I look forward to continuing to build and explore our musical connections together in this new capacity."
