VC Artist Bohdan Luts' New Album, "Dvořák - Bruch - Nielsen"
Released on Orchid Classics, the album features works for violin and orchestra by Dvořák, Nielsen, and Bruch
VC Artist and Violinist Bohdan Luts recently signed a 2-year contract with the “Nordic Artists” management, which includes a solo recording with the Odense Symphony Orchestra for Orchid Classics. This new album, Dvořák - Bruch - Nielsen, features Antonin Dvořák's Violin Concerto Op. 53 in A Minor, Carl Nielsen's 2 Fantasy Pieces Op. 2, and Max Bruch's Scottish Fantasy Op. 46.
In collaboration with the Odense Symphony Orchestra conducted by Anna Skryleva, each piece is interconnected, having all been composed in the late 19th century. Both Dvořák's Violin Concerto and Bruch's Scottish Fantasy share folk elements leading to their popularity, while Nielsen's character piece remained relatively anonymous.
Originally written for oboe and piano, following Nielsen's own performance of the fantasy on violin, violinist Hans Sitt eventually published it for violin and orchestra. The piece continued to be scored for violin and orchestra, violin and piano, and violin with organ accompaniment.
