VC Artist Double Bassist Xavier Foley Signs with Monica Felkel Creative Partners
The double bassist and composer has been added to the Monica Felkel Creative Partners roster for worldwide management, effective immediately
VC Artist Xavier Foley joins the likes of violists Kenji Bunch and Nokuthula Ngwenyama, violinist Curtis Stewart, conductors Fawzi Haimor, Norman Huynh, Na’Zir McFadden, and Julian Pellicano, and cellist Jonathan Swensen, on the Monica Felkel Creative Partners roster.
A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with Edgar Meyer and Hal Robinson, Xavier is a former first-prize winner at the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, Astral National Auditions, and the Sphinx Competition. He was recognized on New York WQXR’s “19 for 19” Artists to Watch list and featured on PBS Thirteen’s NYC-ARTs. In 2018, he was awarded a prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant.
He has performed at the National Gallery of Art, Kennedy Center, La Jolla Music Society, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the Morgan Library & Museum, Kaufman Music Center, and the Harriman-Jewell Series.
As a composer, Foley’s catalog of groundbreaking works includes "Soul Bass," a concerto commissioned and premiered by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra under Jonathan Heyward, with additional performances by the Baltimore Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, San Luis Obispo Symphony, Spartanburg Philharmonic, and Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra.
His work "For Justice and Peace" for violin, double bass, and string orchestra was co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall, the Sphinx Organization, and the New World Symphony.
Other concerti include 'Victory" for double bass and strings and "Resurrection of Titan" for violin, double bass, and orchestra, commissioned by the Cabrillo Festival in association with the Mahler Foundation.
He has collaborated with leading conductors including Mei-Ann Chen, Cristian Măcelaru, David Danzmayr, Michael Christie, Michael Stern, Xian Zhang, Carlos Kalmar, and Thomas Wilkins.
“I’m thrilled that I’ve joined the roster of Monica Felkel Creative Partners,” Foley shared. “Having worked with Monica before, we already have a strong understanding of how to present my bass as a solo instrument and feature my compositions in the performing arts space. I’m excited to collaborate again and build meaningful projects together in the seasons ahead.”
“I am absolutely delighted to be collaborating with Xavier once again,” said Monica Felkel. “His career is at a truly exciting moment. The buzz around his work—as both a soloist and a composer with a unique voice to share with the world—makes him an inspiring partner.”
