VC Artist Francisco Fullana Named Artistic Advisor of Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia
Fullana will begin his tenure by directing concerts of Vivaldi, Piazzolla, and Glass, all without with a conductor
The Spanish-American violinist and VC Artist Francisco Fullana has been named the new Artistic Advisor to the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, with immediate effect.
Fullana will begin his time in the position by directing an un-conducted week of rehearsals and performances of music by Glass, Piazzolla, and Vivaldi, which is due to take place in March 2025. The project pairs Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" concerti with their twentieth-century companion concerti by Piazzolla, adding in Glass's Preludes: the American Four Seasons for good measure.
A graduate of The Juilliard School and the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, where he studied with Donald Weilerstein, Masao Kawasaki, and Midori, Fullana is a former First Prize winner at the Julio Cardona, Munetsugu Angel, and Johannes Brahms International Violin Competitions. In 2018, he was awarded a prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant.
As of 2025, Fullana will also take on new roles as Artistic Director of the San Antonio’s 210 Festival, and as Artistic Advisor and Curator at The Orchestra of San Antonio (TOSA), the resident organization of the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.
Fullana is a co-founder of San Antonio’s Classical Music Summer Institute (CMI) and has been advising and performing at both CMI and the 210 Festival since its establishment in 2016. He will also continue to foster young musicians through his Fortissimo Youth Initiative.
