Canadian violinist, VC Artist Nikki Chooi has firmly established himself as one of the new generation’s most captivating young concert artists – praised by The New York Times as “vigorous and colorful” and by The Calgary Herald as “richly expressive and technically assured”.

A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School, where he studied with Ida Kavafian, Joseph Silverstein and Donald Weilerstein, Nikki is a former 1st prize winner at the Michael Hill International Violin Competition, the Klein International Strings Competition and Astral Artists Auditions – and a laureate of the Queen Elisabeth International Violin Competition.

His recent solo debuts include performances with the Auckland Philharmonia, St. Petersburg State Capella, Malaysian Philharmonic, Edmonton Symphony, Calgary Philharmonic and Winnipeg Symphony – and recitals at Chicago’s Harris Theatre and Belgium’s La Monnai.

During the 2015-16 season Nikki performed with genre-breaking ensemble, Time for Three – and for the current 2016-17 season he has served as Concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in New York City.

He performs regularly with his brother, VC Young Artist Timothy Chooi – their upcoming performances together include the world premiere of a new Double Violin Concerto by American composer Sheridan Seyfried.
