We’re coming to you LIVE from Brunswick, Maine, for a special concert presented by the Bowdoin International Music Festival, featuring the Turtle Island Quartet.
Since its inception in 1985, the Turtle Island Quartet - comprised of violinists David Balakrishnan, Gabriel Terracciano, violist Benjamin von Gutzeit, and cellist Naseem Alatrash - has been a singular force in the creation of bold, new trends in chamber music for strings. Winner of the 2006 and 2008 Grammy Awards for Best Classical Crossover Album, Turtle Island fuses the classical quartet esthetic with contemporary American musical styles, and by devising a performance practice that honors both, the state of the art has inevitably been redefined.
The festival was founded in 1964 and engages exceptional students and enthusiastic audiences through world-class education and performances. Each summer, 250 students from more than 20 countries and nearly every state attend the festival to study with distinguished faculty and guest artists.
