Established in 2017, Fortissima is now a national six-month artistic and leadership development program at the Colburn School for young women of high school age from underrepresented minorities. The aim is to support these students in classical music to pursue professional music careers.
The cost-free program comprises one-on-one mentorship, virtual engagement, and a week-long residential intensive at the Colburn School, which was introduced in 2021.
Concluding their 2022 residential intensive from October 22-30, Fortissima will perform a program of works by female and BIPOC composers — curated and directed by Jannina Norpoth, Fortissima’s music director and PUBLIQuartet violinist.
Fortissima held a similar event last year, with its musicians performing works by female and BIPOC composers Jesse Montgomery, Florence Price, Chevalier de St. George, and more — spanning a period of almost 300 hundred years.
“I was truly humbled to see these young ladies find their own voices in the music programmed…I know you will enjoy their music and performance as much as I have enjoyed getting to know them,” Norpoth said during Fortissima in Concert 2021.
