VC Rising Star Chloe Chua’s Debut Album with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra
Released on Pentatone records, the album sees Chloe perform violin concertos by Vivaldi and Locatelli with conductor Yoong-Han Chan
Recently appointed the Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s (SSO) youngest Artist-In-Residence, 16-year-old VC Rising Star Chloe Chua has launched her international recording career performing Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and Locatelli’s Harmonic Labyrinth violin concerto, conducted by SSO concertmaster Yoong-Han Chan.
The opening work of the album, The Four Seasons, represents the beginning of Chloe’s professional career when she won joint-first prize at the 2018 Yehudi Menuhin International Competition for Young Violinists with her performance of “Winter.”
“Recording the Four Seasons is a dream come true for me,” said Chloe. “I grew up listening to classical music and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons was one of the pieces that my mum would often play on her CD player at home,” she continued. “It brings back fond memories of my time at the Menuhin Competition in 2018, when I played my favorite season, Winter, with the wonderful Orchestre de Chambre de Genève in the magnificent Victoria Hall in Geneva.
“Playing through the complete Four Seasons makes me feel as if I have lived in Italy for a year, experiencing the changing weather, the activities unique to every season, and living the joys and sorrows of it all alongside its people,” she added. “It is very meaningful to me.”
“Pentatone is very pleased to work with the stellar violinist Chloe Chua and the renowned Singapore Symphony Orchestra, combining a vibrant young talent at the start of what promises to be a thrilling career, with an orchestra that has a long and established recording history,” said Pentatone’s managing director, Sean Hickey. “Chloe’s debut recording of Vivaldi and Locatelli is sure to attract a lot of attention, and we look forward to developing this singular talent and supporting her growth.”
For this recording, Chloe played on a Guadagnini violin, generously loaned by the Rin Collection. The album was produced by msm-productions, recording producer Dominik Streicher, and recording engineer Ephraim Hahn.
