VC Young Artist Luke Hsu Signs with Gradus Artist Management
Hsu will be represented by Hungarian manager Vera Meczner at the Budapest-based agency
VC Young Artist and violinist Luke Hsu will be the only violinist on Gradus Artist Management's roster. The agency represents a wide range of artists, including composers, actors, poets, and literary translators.
Born in Shanghai and raised in Houston, Hsu is now living in Berlin. He was a laureate of the 2019 Queen Elisabeth Competition and has also won prizes at the Nielsen, Wieniawski, Michael Hill, Indianapolis, and Paganini competitions.
"[Meczner] found me through the Queen Elisabeth Competition, and after our meeting in Berlin, I felt like she was the right one to handle all my future engagements," Hsu told The Violin Channel.
"I truly look forward to working with her in the future seasons to come."
As a soloist, Hsu has appeared at Wigmore Hall, Windsor Castle, Kennedy Center, Herkulessaal, Philharmonie Berlin, and BOZAR, among others. He has performed with numerous orchestras, most recently with the Sinfonieorchester Basel, Sudeten Philharmonic, Belgian National Orchestra, and the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia.
He has also played for royalty around the world including His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex Prince Edward and Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of Belgium.
As a chamber musician, he has collaborated with luminaries such as Itamar Golan, Cho-Liang Lin, Gil Shaham, Marc-Andre Hamelin, Peter Frankl, and Colin Carr. His festival appearances include Verbier, La Jolla SummerFest, Wieniawski, Music@Menlo, and Yellow Barn. Luke is also regularly invited to Prussia Cove Open Chamber Music.
Hsu gives regular masterclasses at London's Royal Academy of Music and is also regularly invited to Prussia Cove Open Chamber Music.
He currently plays on a 1781 Gagliano violin.
