Romanian-Belgian violin virtuoso Lola Bobesco died on this day in 2003 – aged 82.
A celebrated protege of Marcel Chailley, George Enescu and Jacques Thibaud, Ms Bobesco was the founder of the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie and the L'Arte del Suono String Quartet – and served distinguished teaching positions at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles and Conservatory of Liège.
