Russian-born American violin virtuoso Nathan Milstein was born on this day in 1904.

A student of Pyotr Stolyarsky, Leopold Auer and Eugene Ysaye, he is remembered as one of the finest violinists of the 20th Century – performing at a highest of levels well into his mid 80s.
