Violinist and Violist Robert Mozes has Passed Away
Mozes was a violinist in the Israel Philharmonic and played viola in the Israel String Quartet
Born in Romania, Robert Mozes studied with Edith Broch and was a graduate of the Cluj Academy of Music. In 1977, he traveled to Israel, where he continued his studies with Ramy Shevelov at the Tel-Aviv Rubin Music Academy.
That same year, Mozes became a member of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, where he performed for over 40 years until 2020 and appeared as a soloist on numerous occasions.
In 1986, he joined the Jerusalem String Trio as a viola player, performing across Israel, America, Canada, and Japan. He was also a violist in the Israel String Quartet.
In addition to his violin and viola performances, which were often broadcast on radio stations nationally and abroad, he is remembered for his contributions as a composer and arranger.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Robert Mozes,” the Toscanini String Quartet posted on Facebook. “Robi was a true musician — his love for music was evident in everything he did.
“In his honor and memory, we’d like to share an arrangement he wrote for us a few years ago, one that we had the privilege of performing around the world,” they added. “Rest in peace, dear friend. Your music will always be with us.”
Our condolences to Mr. Mozes’ family, friends, and colleagues.
