Violinist Anne Akiko Meyers Wins at 2024 Latin GRAMMY Awards
Among 58 categories, Meyers won the Best Classical Album award for her album “Fandango” with Gustavo Castillo and Gustavo Dudamel
First presented in 2000, the Latin GRAMMY Awards recognizes excellence and enables greater public awareness of the cultural diversity and contributions of Latin recording artists.
The nominees across 58 categories at the 2024 Latin GRAMMYs represented a range of artists and creators across a variety of genres reflecting the diversity within Latin music and its influence worldwide.
In the 50th category “Classical,” the Latin GRAMMY for Best Classical Album went to violinist Anne Akiko Meyers and singer Gustavo Castillo for their album “Fandango.”
Released on Platoon and produced by Dmitry Lipay, the winning album features the Los Angeles Philharmonic conducted by Gustavo Dudamel.
Additionally, the award for Best Classical Contemporary Composition went to Arturo Márquez’s work Fandango on the same album, featuring Meyers with the LA Phil and Dudamel.
“I am very honored and grateful to all who made today possible to receive both Grammys for Classical Music,” Márquez posted on Facebook.
Other awards including for Best Instrumental Album went to “Tembla,” by Hamilton De Holanda and the C4 Trío, released on Sony Music Entertainment.
New additions at the 25th anniversary of the Latin GRAMMY Awards included a new Field and two new Latin GRAMMY Categories — Best Latin Electronic Music Performance, housed within the new Electronic Music Field, and Best Contemporary Mexican Music Album.
Votes for the nominees and winners at the Latin GRAMMYs are placed each year by members of the Latin Recording Academy, which includes diverse recording artists, songwriters, producers, recording engineers, and mixers.
This peer-voted process renders the Latin GRAMMY Award as the only accolade awarded by music industry professionals.
