Pentatone Records has this week announced the release of Germany violin virtuoso Arabella Steinbacher’s new album: Richard Strauss: Aber der Richtige … Violin Concerto Miniatures.
Recorded with conductor Lawrence Foster and the WDR Symphony Orchestra, the disc features Richard Strauss’ Violin Concerto in D Minor – plus a number of new violin arrangements and transcription of Strauss’ most lyrical operatic songs – including Aber der Richtige from Arabella.
“My inspiration for this disc were the songs from my early childhood … especially the famous aria of ‘Arabella’ by Richard Strauss …” Arabella has told The Violin Channel.
“I grew up in a house full of operatic music as my father worked for many years as a pianist at the Bavarian State Opera House and my mother studied as a singer … it was actually the reason why they named me ‘Arabella’,” she has said.
“I hope that listeners can enjoy these beautiful Strauss songs … there are so many wonderful memories in these pieces for me … and whist of course the spoken text is missing, but i feel the violin is as close to the human voice as possible.”
