German violinist Christian Stadelmann has passed away following a serious illness - aged just 60.
A graduate of the Berlin University of the Arts, where he studied with Thomas Brandis, Mr Stadelmann had served as Principal 2nd Violinist with the Berlin Philharmonic since 1987.
He was also a founding member of the Philharmonia Quartet and the Vincent Trio - and served a teaching position on faculty at the Karajan Academy.
"In Christian Stadelmann, we lose an exemplary musician and a wonderful colleague who will remain in our memory not least because of his warm-hearted, humorous nature," Berlin Philharmonic colleague Knut Weber has today said.
Our condolences are with Mr Stadelmann’s family, friends, colleagues and students.
