Violinist and conductor Isaac Stern was born on this day in 1920 – 96 years ago.

Dying in 2001, he is remembered as one of the great instrumentalists for the 20th Century, and for his dedication towards championing new talent – credited with discovering Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman.
