Violinist Hilary Hahn Returns to Performing After Injury Hiatus
Following an almost seven-month injury hiatus, Hahn will return to the stage with the New York Philharmonic on February 26, 2025
The three-time GRAMMY Award-winning violinist Hilary Hahn has announced her return to concertizing after a double pinched nerve injury saw her withdraw from several concerts since July 2024.
After nearly seven months of rest, Hahn will join the New York Philharmonic and conductor Herbert Blomstedt in concerts on February 26–27, and on March 1–2, performing the Brahms Violin Concerto.
Held in the Wu Tsai Theater at David Geffen Hall, the concert will also feature Schubert’s Symphony No. 6.
Additionally, in a special event following the Brahms and Schubert on February 27, Hahn will be presenting a Kravis Nightcap performance alongside NY Phil musicians and New York City Ballet principal dancer Tiler Peck.
This performance will include Max Richter’s Mercy; Jessie Montgomery’s Musings; Carlos Simon’s Between Worlds and be still and know; Ysaÿe’s Violin Sonata, Op. 27, No.3, Ballade; Bach’s Courante from Partita No. 1 in B minor; plus the second and third movements of Walker’s Cello Sonata.
“I'm thrilled to return to the stage,” Hahn posted on Facebook. “Coming back to perform with [the NY Phil] feels like a homecoming — they’re family to me, and it’s especially meaningful to build upon our wonderful residency collaboration from last season.
“As I continue my journey of physical recovery, I'm taking a measured approach to my performance schedule, ensuring I have adequate rest between concerts,” she continued. “This careful balance will help me give my absolute best to each performance and to the music we all love so deeply. This means I have had to cancel several previously announced concerts.
“I’m grateful for the understanding from presenters and audiences where this is necessary, because I know this is what I have to do to keep making music for as long as possible — hopefully until I'm 97, like Maestro Blomstedt! (No pressure, right?) Take care of yourselves, and see you in NY!”
