Violinist Hilary Hahn Withdraws from All November Concerts
Due to a double-pinched nerve, Hahn has been advised to abstain from performing
This week, GRAMMY award-winning violinist Hilary Hahn announced on social media that she has withdrawn from all concert engagements through to the end of November. This comes after her medical team advised her to "abstain from strenuous performance and travel as she continues to recover from a double-pinched nerve."
These cancellations affect the United States tour with the Berliner Philharmoniker. The tour includes concerts at The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Carnegie Hall in New York, Hill Auditorium, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and her two-night engagement with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, Ontario.
Violinist Benjamin Beilman will replace her at the Kennedy Center and in Ann Arbor, while Vilde Frang will perform Korngold's Violin Concerto at Carnegie Hall. Pianist Jaeden Izik-Dzurko will step in to perform Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the National Arts Centre Orchestra.
“I am extremely disappointed not to be touring with the Berlin Philharmonic or to be returning to Ottawa this month," Hahn shared. "Unfortunately, healing follows its own timeline, and I have to respect that if I want to be able to play far into the future. I hope to be on the road again very soon, and I deeply appreciate all the support I’ve received during this process. To my colleagues and concertgoers, I am so sorry that I can’t be there with you!”
Hahn has previously canceled her engagements in September with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, having recently completed her artist residency with the ensemble.
The Violin Channel wishes Hilary all the best while she recovers!
