Onyx Records has announced the release of James Ehnes' new album: 'Aaron Jay Kernis & James Newton Howard Violin Concertos'
Onyx Records has announced the release of Canadian violin virtuoso James Ehnes' new album: Aaron Jay Kernis & James Newton Howard Violin Concertos.
Recorded with conductor Ludovic Morlot and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, the new-music disc features the world premiere recordings of composers Aaron Jay Kernis and James Newton Howard's Violin Concertos - plus Bramwell Tovey's Stream of Limelight.
"These three pieces were written for me, and I consider it a great honor and privilege to have the opportunity to bring them “to life”, so to speak ... first in concert, and now on CD ..." James has told The Violin Channel.
"The three composers are not just three of my favorite living composers, but also three great friends ... so the project was really a labor of love from start to finish,' he has said.
"I hope that listeners will not just appreciate the pieces individually, but will also come away thinking how lucky we are to be living in an age of such varied genius ... the three works are all fantastic, and couldn’t be more different ... I love them all, and look forward to hearing from listeners which one they loved most, and why.'
