Violinist Janine Jansen Joins Kronberg Academy Faculty

The renowned Dutch violinist will begin teaching at the Academy in November 2023

Janine Jansen has joined Germany’s Kronberg Academy as professor of violin, effective as of this month.

Her upcoming performances in her new role include two concerts alongside violinist Gidon Kremer and the Kremerata Baltica at the 2024 Kronberg Festival.

Other Academy faculty members include Mihaela Martin, Christian Tetzlaff, Antje Weithaas, Nobuko Imai, Tabea Zimmermann, Frans Helmerson, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, and Sir András Schiff.

As a soloist, Jansen has performed and toured with major international orchestras worldwide; she records exclusively with Decca Classics, which has released many of her acclaimed albums.

Her recital and chamber music partners have included Leif Ove Andsnes, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Itamar Golan, Kathryn Stott, Julian Rachlin, Maxim Rysanov, Torleif Thedéen, and Mischa Maisky, among others.

The founder and artistic director of the International Chamber Music Festival Utrecht, Jansen has also been a professor at HÉMU Sion (Haute École de Musique Vaud Valais Fribourg) since 2019.

Among her accolades include the Herbert von Karajan Prize, Johannes Vermeer Prize, Royal Philharmonic Society Instrumentalist Award, five Edison Klassiek Awards, plus the German Record Critics’, NDR Music, Concertgebouw, and Bremen MusikFest Prizes.

Jansen studied with Coosje Wijzenbeek, Philipp Hirshhorn, and Boris Belkin. She plays violin on a 1715 “Shumsky/Rode” Stradivarius — loaned to her by a European patron.

“With enthusiasm and joy we welcome Janine at Kronberg Academy,” said the Academy’s artistic director and head of study programs, Friedemann Eichhorn. “We look forward to her appointment that will be a great inspiration to our students and the audience in the Casals Forum (concert hall).”

Founded by CEO Raimund Trenkler in 1993, the Kronberg Academy offers a range of study programs to emerging violinists, violists, cellists, and pianists, who wish to pursue bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Its students tour together several times each year where they perform on international stages.
