Johannes Fleischmann Album Solitaire

Violinist Johannes Fleischmann's New Album, “Solitaire”

Released on Odradek Records, the album presents little-known compositions by Haydn, Wagner, Liszt, Schumann, and more

Following the release of his debut album, "Exodus," violinist Johannes Fleischmann has released a new album, “Solitaire.” The album presents little-known individual works for violin and piano by composers who influenced each other.

Along with pianist Christoph Ulrich Meier, the release includes Haydn's Jacob's Dream, for violin and piano, Wagner's Funf Gedichte fur eine Frauenstimme WWV 91. No. 5: Traume, Liszt's Die drei Zigeuner S. 383, Reinecke's Romanze Op. 3 No. 1, Schumann's Waldszenen Op. 82 No. 7: Vogel als Prophet, Joachim's Romance for Violin and Piano in C Major, and more.

The title "Solitaire" coincides with violinist Joseph Joachim's motto 'free but lonely,' which was also an inspiration for this album.

As a recurring theme of influence, Wagner learned from works by Liszt and Zemlinsky; Zemlinsky was inspired by Brahms, who collaborated with Schumann and Joachim. The never-ending cycle of influence and inspiration connects all 16 tracks in the album.

Born into a musical family in Vienna, violinist Johannes Fleischmann received his first instrumental education at the age of 5. After graduating from the Viennese “Musikgymnasium”, he founded the “o(h)!-ton Ensemble, Wien” in 2003. The same year, he began his studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, in the classes of Klaus Maetzl and Christian Altenburger, and graduated in 2011 with distinction.

Fleischmann made his solo debut with the Brahms Violin Concerto at the Wiener Konzerthaus. As a chamber musician, Johannes has worked with artists such as Christian Altenburger, François Benda, Julius Berger, Andrej Bielow, and members of the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and has performed in many concert halls such as Wiener Musikverein, Wiener Konzerthaus, Philharmonie im Gasteig Munich, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Brucknerhaus Linz, and the Flagey in Brussels.

Conductor and Pianist Christoph Ulrich Meier is the Musical Supervisor of the Bayreuth Festival. He has performed at the Musikverein Vienna, Berlin Philharmonie, Felsenreitschule Salzburg, and the Suntory Hall Tokyo, among others. Fleischmann and Meier have been performing as a duo since 2019.
