Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse Gives Tenure to Violinist Kim Jae-won
The Korean violinist initially auditioned for the principal concertmaster role in 2022
Korean violinist Kim Jae-won has received the coveted position of "supersoliste" (translated to "super soloist") at France's Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse. The designation means that she has received tenure in her position as principal concertmaster.
Kim successfully auditioned for the concertmaster position in 2022 and began working in the role in 2023.
Born in 1994, Kim studied at the National University of the Arts in Korea and subsequently received her master's degree from the Paris Conservatoire, where she studied with Svetlin Roussev.
In 2008, she won 3rd prize and the prize for virtuosity at the Kloster Schontal International Violin Competition. Then, in 2012, she was awarded 2nd prize and the Special Prize at the Lipizer International Violin Competition, followed in 2013 by 3rd prize at the International String Competition in Schoenfeld and, in 2017, 2nd prize at the International Violin Competition in Sofia.
Alongside her position in Toulouse, Kim is the deputy artist director of the Busan International Classic Music Festival. On April 27, she will perform with the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra as part of Seoul Arts Center's Korea Orchestra Festival 2024.
"Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse is an orchestra with explosive energy and a unique sound," Kim said. "Thanks to the trust the members have shown during the training period, I have enjoyed my time immensely. I will continue to strive to become a better leader through past experiences."
