Violinist Nathan Mierdl Appointed Concertmaster of Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France

The 24-year-old German violinist joins Hélène Collerette and Ji Yoon Park in the role

Violinist Nathan Mierdl was promoted to the Assistant Concertmaster position at Paris's Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. His first appearance in the new role took place on January 14, when the orchestra played a program of twentieth-century works by Bernstein, Fauré, Nadia Boulanger, Ibert, and Gershwin.

"I am very happy, very honored," Mierdl told Radio France of his appointment. "Relieved, too, because it was inevitably a little stressful to wait. But I had years of experience in orchestras, which allowed me to go there calmly, to know precisely what was expected of me. I knew it was going to be a hell of a challenge, but I think that I was able to convince the majority of the orchestra, which is rather successful."

Born in Frankfurt, Mierdl studied with Christophe Poiget at the Conservatoire de Dijon and with Roland Daugareile at Paris's Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse. He is a laureate of the Yehudi Menuhin, Ludwig Spohr de Weimar, Mirecourt, Rodolfo Lipizer, and Ginette Neveu competitions.

After studying at the Academy of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and the Academy of the Orchestre de Paris, he became a member of the Orchestre National de France.

Nathan founded the Gaïa Quartett in 2015 and obtained with them a Master’s Degree in Chamber Music in 2019 under the leadership of Jean Sulen. In 2022, he joined the Trio Metral composed of the pianist Victor Metral and the cellist Laure-Hélène Michel.
