Violinist Noah Bendix-Balgley Joins Curtis Institute of Music as Visiting Faculty
Bendix-Balgley will assume the visiting faculty position as of fall 2025
Set to become the first visiting faculty member of Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute of Music, violinist and VC Artist Noah Bendix-Balgley will join the school for one residency each semester and mentor Curtis’ students as part of the role.
This news comes as the Rosamunde String Quartet, of which Noah is currently the first violinist, joined Curtis Artist Management in late 2024, benefitting from the worldwide representation.
As first concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic since 2014, Noah’s recent highlights include a Carnegie Hall debut performing solo in the Berlin Phil’s U.S. tour, a Japan tour with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, plus more concerto appearances with the Dresden, Buffalo, Auckland, and Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestras.
Having also appeared with the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra and the Shanghai, Guangzhou, Utah, Quebec, and Royal Danish Orchestras, his upcoming projects will involve debuts with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Orquestra de Valencia, and the Orchestre National de Lyon.
Noah began playing the violin at age four and attended the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and the Hochschule München, where he was mentored by Mauricio Fuks, Christoph Poppen, and Ana Chumachenco.
A laureate of the 2009 Queen Elisabeth Competition, his accolades include top prizes at France’s Long-Thibaud Competition and the Postacchini Competition in Italy. In 2011 at the age of 26, he was appointed concertmaster of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
In chamber music, he serves as a member of the multi-genre ensemble Philharmonix in addition to festival appearances including the Seattle Music Festival, La Jolla SummerFest, and the Aix-en-Provence Festival. His discography includes his latest album, “Mozart–Sinigaglia,” released in 2024 featuring Kirill Petrenko and the Berlin Philharmonic.
“I am thrilled to take on a new role as visiting violin faculty at the Curtis Institute of Music,” Noah said. “My connection to Curtis has grown because of the Rosamunde String Quartet: My colleagues in the quartet are all Curtis alumni and we are represented by Curtis Artist Management.
“With this new teaching position, I look forward to deepening my own relationship with this extraordinary school,” he added. “I can’t wait to work with the talented young violinists at Curtis!”
