Violinist Renaud Capuçon Signs with Deutsche Grammophon

The French violinist will make his debut recording on the label with pianist Martha Argerich

French violinist Renaud Capuçon has recently signed with the German label Deutsche Grammophon, following a long-standing career with Erato in France.

Capuçon has been signed for a multi-year series of projects, which will see him make both audio and audio-visual recordings. The label particularly lauds Capuçon for the work he does with younger artists and composers, and recordings that fit into this category will be co-released between Deutsche Grammphon and Capuçon's own company.

One major project that the label has planned for Capuçon is a recording of the complete Mozart violin concerti with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, due for release in Spring 2023.

Capuçon's first release on the label, however, will be a live recording of a recital he gave alongside pianist Martha Argerich at the Aix-en-Provence Easter Festival in April 2022. That disc will be released in November 2022 and features Schumann’s Sonata No. 1 Op. 105, Beethoven’s Sonata No. 9 Op. 47, “Kreutzer”, and the Franck Violin Sonata.

“I feel so inspired by the prospect of working with the team at Deutsche Grammophon,” Capuçon said. “I look forward to bringing unique creative projects to life. There are so many possibilities for us to explore together on how to present classical music in fresh ways."

"We want to capture the unbeatable energy of live performance and the excitement that compositions familiar to audiences today generated the first time they were heard," he continued. "Our plans will also be a springboard for some of today’s finest young talents and allow me to curate projects with many of my wonderful chamber music and orchestral colleagues.”

"Renaud Capuçon is not just a superb soloist and chamber musician,” said Dr Clemens Trautmann, the President of Deutsche Grammophon. “He is also a great ambassador and advocate for classical music, an artist who understands the unique power of live music-making to move and connect people. And he is the first French violinist signed to DG since Christian Ferras, one of his great sources of inspiration."
