Violinist Vineta Sareika Receives Honorary Professorship from Latvian Academy of Music
Sareika will receive her honorary professor diploma from the Academy on September 20, 2024
The Senate of the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) awarded violinist Vineta Sareika the title of JVLMA Honorary Professor in January 2024 for her contribution to the development of music and promoting Latvian culture.
Sareika, who recently resigned as first concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic, will be presented the diploma from the rector of the academy, Ilona May, on September 20, 2024, at the JVLMA Great Hall.
Since becoming a laureate of the 2009 Queen Elizabeth International Violin Competition, Sareika has performed with the London Philharmonia Orchestra, Belgian National Orchestra, Royal Flemish Orchestra, Lisbon Philharmonic Orchestra, Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, and the London Chamber Orchestra.
She played in the Berlin Philharmonic for almost three years, and was appointed first concertmaster in 2023. Sareika was also concertmaster of the Royal Flemish Orchestra and played first violin in the acclaimed Artemis Quartet from 2012 to 2021. Among her awards include two Latvian Grand Music Awards.
In recent years, she has appeared as guest concertmaster with the Brussels Royal Opera Orchestra, Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra, plus conducted the Vienna Philharmonic International Youth Orchestra, and the Riga Festival Orchestra and the Santander International Festival Orchestra.
As an educator, she teaches chamber music at the Universität der Künste Berlin and serves as a jury member in prestigious competitions worldwide. She plays a 1683 Antonio Stradivari violin, generously on loan from the Ruggieri Foundation.
