Violist Isabel Villanueva Appointed Professor at the Royal College of Music

The Spanish artist will continue to develop her solo career in tandem with the professorship

Isabel Villanueva's professorship at London's Royal College of Music will commence in the 2022/23 academic year.

Villanueva began her musical training in Pamplona, Spain, where she grew up. She went on to study with Igor Sulyga, Lawrence Power, Nobuko Imai, and Yuri Bashmet, in London, Geneva, and Siena.

She has made solo appearances with orchestras all over the world, including the Moscow Soloists, Estonia National Symphony, Lebanon Philharmonic, Istanbul State Symphony, New Russia State Symphony, St. Petersburg State Capella, Jalisco Symphony, Colombia Symphony, Zagreb Soloists, Real Philharmonia de Galicia, and Málaga Philharmonic.

Villanueva is also a strong advocate of contemporary music and has premiered more than twenty new works for the viola. She is the dedicatee of many of these pieces.

Her debut album Bohèmes with pianist François Dumont was awarded Best Classical Album of the Year 2018 at the Spanish Independent Music Awards (Premios MIN).

Villanueva will continue to live in Spain and develop her solo career alongside the new teaching position.

"Very excited to share that I have been appointed Viola Professor at the Royal College of Music in London from this September!" Villanueva wrote on social media. "Very happy to belong to such a prestigious institution and community."
