Winners Announced at 2022 Classic Strings Violin Competition
The 2022 Classic Strings Violin Competition took place at the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray Music Hall in Dubai, United Arab Emirates for the Final Round, which you can watch here.
Violinist Dumitru Pocitari (Moldova/Israel) won first prize and a special prize dedicated to a finalist with "the most natural, beautiful sound." Elena Tarosian (Armenia/Russia) and Elli Choi (USA) received second and third prize, respectively. Special prizes were also awarded to Anna Lee (Korea/USA) and Wang Xiaozhuo (China/Austria).
Pocitari received €100,000, consisting of €50,000 in cash plus a tour of 10 concerts with a total honorarium of €50,000.
Over the three day Final Round, each finalist performed alongside the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra.
The jury comprised chair Martin T:Son Engstroem (Sweden), Andrey Baranov (Switzerland), Pavel Berman (Italy), Zakhar Bron (Germany/Switzerland), Michael Dauth (Germany), Michael Guttman (Belgium), Zuo Jun (Singapore), Dora Schwarzberg (Israel/Austria), and Eduard Wulfson (Switzerland).
