2022 Mittenwald International Violin Making Competition Postponed
The competition was initially to be held in June, but will now take place between October 28 and November 13, 2022
The organizers of the ninth Mittenwald International Violin Making Competition have announced that the competition has been postponed by a few months.
The rationale behind the decision was to avoid a clash with the G7 Summit, which is to take place at Germany's Schloss Elmau on the last weekend in June.
The competition's organizers noted that large amounts of accommodation in Bavaria will be booked out for the summit. Also, significant restrictions may be in place due to the pandemic, making it difficult to hold the competition in a satisfactory matter.
The competition has been running every four years or so since 1989, and the organizers were unwilling to cancel the event, despite the pandemic.
A jury of ten will assess violins, violas, celli, and bows, all of which must have been completed in the preceding two years. The event usually brings significant numbers of tourists to the region and includes concerts and masterclasses alongside the competition itself.
