Cellist Jan Vogler Awarded the Federal Republic of Germany's Order of Merit

The awards are given to 16 people on German Unity Day to celebrate outstanding contributions to the arts

German cellist Jan Vogler has been named as one of the recipients of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The award praises Vogler's commitment to his home area of Saxony, and names his directorship of the Dresden and Moritzburg Music Festivals as significant contributions to the culture in Germany.

Another musician to receive the honor is recorder player Dorothee Oberlinger. Alongside a distinguished solo career, Oberlinger is also the director of the Institute for Early Music at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg.

Others on the list of recipients include the actor Burghart Klaußner, writer Terézia Mora, accordion player Tobias Morgenstern, actor Thomas Rühmann, filmmaker Christian Petzold, and the President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Josef Schuster.

“Six women and ten men have made an extraordinary contribution to the arts and cultural life, which has been particularly affected by the coronavirus restrictions," said the German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier of the recipients.
