Alondra de la Parra Announced as New Music Director of Australian Orchestra
The Queensland Symphony Orchestra, in Australia has today announced the appointment of 34 year old Mexican-born female conductor, Alondra de la Parra as their new Music Director.
“The appointment of Alondra is a major turning point for the Queensland Symphony … we have secured a music leader who could choose to work with any orchestra across the globe,” Orchestra Chief Executive Officer, Ms Sophie Galaise has said.
“It is truly a great honour to be chosen as the first Music Director of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and a dream come true for me,” she has said, “… The QSO is an innovative arts company, with a great vibrancy and truly outstanding musicality.”
A protege of by Marin Alsop, Charles Dutoit and Kurt Masur, Alondra currently serves as Artistic Director of the New York-based Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas and the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra.
She was recently heralded by Plácido Domingo as “an extraordinary conductor.”
