The Vienna Symphony has today announced the appointment of 40 year old Colombian-Austrian conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada as its new chief conductor - effective from September 2021.
“Andrés is one of the most exciting, most versatile and most inspiring conductors of our time,” orchestra chairman Thomas Schindl has said.
He will succeed Swiss conductor Philippe Jordan in the role - who stepped down from the ensemble recently following his appointment as music director of the Vienna State Opera.
A graduate of the Frankfurt University of Music, Andrés currently serves as chief conductor of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony, music director of the Houston Symphony Orchestra - and as principal guest conductor of the London Philharmonic.
