The Sydney Conservatorium of Music (SCM), in the heart of Sydney’s cultural precinct, is one of the oldest and most prestigious music schools in Australia.

Founded in 1915, the school is known for its exceptional commitment to music, innovative programs, and partnerships programs with Australia’s major organizations.

Offering undergraduate and graduate programs, the Conservatorium has strong ties with the city’s professional symphonic life through ‘visiting staff’ relationships with major professional ensembles and the international music community.

Located close to the Sydney Opera House and surrounded by the Royal Botanic Gardens, it was renovated in 2001 and hosts five major performance venues and over 130 teaching and practice studios.

The SCM is looking for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Violin, a full-time position with the opportunity to be involved in both teaching and research. The successful applicant will have a DMA, PhD, or equivalent qualification, plus the ability to guide students toward the highest levels of artistic achievement.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Plan, foster and develop the training of violinists at the University and develop performance curriculum in close cooperation with faculty members within the University
  • Contribute importantly to professional practice and/or research outcomes in the area of violin performance
  • Contribute to teaching and training in chamber music, orchestra studies and string pedagogy
  • Build an inspiring learning and working environment for the students and teachers of violin performance
  • Inspire young students including pre-tertiary music students, community teachers and orchestras and develop violin teaching in community and outreach programs
  • Contribute to the development of international student recruitment.

 

There will be three components of the selection process: a 20-minute master class, a 20-minute lecture recital, and a 40-minute interview. The audience with consist of the Selection Committee, students, and staff members.
