A graduate of The Juilliard School, where he studied with Glenn Dicterow, and former student of Kurt Sassmanshaus, Paul Kantor, and Brian Lewis in his earlier years, Charles is a recent recipient of the esteemed "Leonard Bernstein Award."

As a genre-bending violinist, Charles performs in the crossover string trio Time for Three, as well as in a duo with pianist Peter Dugan.

Charles' elaborate career has seen him perform at the Aspen Music Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Ravinia Festival, Crested Butte Music Festival, Cayman Arts Festival, YouTube Music Awards, Moab Music Festival, EG Conference, Google Zeitgeist, and more — as well as at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center’s Metropolitan Opera House, David H. Koch Theater, Dizzy’s and David Rubinstein Atrium, The Royal Danish Theatre, Le Poisson Rouge, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Forbidden City, and more.

Highlights of his recent seasons include his solo debut with conductor Marin Alsop and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and his debut with pianist Peter Dugan as part of The Violin Channel's Vanguard Concerts opening season.

What would be your dream gig?

I sometimes forget how lucky I am. I've gotten to play violin and sing with some the world's leading orchestras and collaborators in some of the greatest concert halls and arenas....I've gotten to songwrite with pop music's finest songwriters and have worked with Pulitzer Prize winning composers on new commissions...If I can maintain doing what I get to do everyday, then every day is my dream gig.

What would you say makes you unique as a musician?

Not sure how unique it is, but I’m constantly curious. Maybe its the ADHD…

No social media, but I’m guilty of watching tv.
