BBC Young Musician Announces 2024 Semi-Finalists
Six young artists have been chosen to represent the UK's upcoming talent in classical music
Founded in 1978, the BBC Young Musician competition is held every two years, celebrating the UK’s most promising classical musicians. Past winners have included Sheku-Kanneh Mason, Nicola Benedetti, and VC Artist Jennifer Pike.
Open to those 18 and under, the competition chose six BBC Young Musician 2024 Semi-Finalists during two Quarter-Finals. They are:
- Violinist Maya Broman Crawford-Phillips (17)
- Harpist Jamaal Kashim (17)
- Violinist Shlomi Shahaf (17)
- Cellist Hugo Svedbert (16)
- Pianist Ryan Wang (16)
- Pianist Jacky Zhang (16)
The Grand Final, filmed at Bristol Beacon, will be broadcast on Sunday, October 20 on BBC Two and iPlayer. The program will include highlights of the three concerto performances with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and conductor Ben Gernon.
The 2024 jury includes trumpeter Alison Balsom, pianist and composer Alexis Ffrench, and multi-instrumentalist and broadcaster Hannah Catherine Jones.
