Johannes Brahms’ Double Concerto Premiere

Johannes Brahms’ Double Concerto in A Minor Op. 102 for violin, cello and orchestra premiered on this day in 1887.

The first performance was given by cellist Robert Hausmann and violinist Joseph Joachim.

The concerto was, in part, a gesture of reconciliation from Brahms and Joachim – following a personal and professional fall out.
